Culinary art in Maramures

Culinary art does not excel in fineness and sophisticated combinations of food and spices, but is rather extremely organic, as is agriculture, from which the main food derivatives are obtained.

They say that nowhere in the country are the hosts more welcoming or the meals more rich than in Maramures. Many tourists come to the Maramures to admire the places but return home with the special taste of the food here.

 The dishes cooked according to the influences of Hungarian cuisine, make the delight of any meals from which neither the Romanians, but nor foreign tourists delighted by the inviting aroma of the dishes.

One of the traditions says the guests are “honest” with the best host and they must consume what is served to them so as not to offend the host.

Authentic gastronomy focuses on peasant household-specific dishes, especially since one of the ingredients without which “moroşans” cannot cook is pork. From soups to stews or plum dumplings, nowhere will you find such a great culinary diversity.

Some of the best traditional dishes from Maramures:

 

“Supă de porumb cu cașcaval”

One of the unique recipes in the north of the country is corn soup with cheese, which makes any other meat-cooked food commonplace.This unexpected combination is based on corn, potatoes and cheese, all transformed into a cream soup specific to the Maramures area.

 

 ” Gulașul la ceaun “

A stew usually prepared from beef, but which can also be replaced by pork, lamb or sheep, goulash is a Hungarian preparation, kept in the Maramures area. In addition to meat, ingredients such as potatoes, cabbage or mushrooms are also used, and a soup is obtained that thickens with a lot of paprika.

 

” Colțunași cu legume “

When it comes to snacks, Maramures are well known for their inventiveness. Vegetable corners, which present themselves as mini cheesecakes or a tasty dessert, can be served between main courses or for a light dinner. Prepare from a dough composed of flour, vinegar and butter, with carrot, celery and potato filling.

 

” Clătite cu urdă și verdeață “

In Maramures, the urda is elevated to the rank of honor and is almost never missing from the tables of the locals. A quick snack prepared in the area includes pancakes with urda and greens, respectively green onions and dill.They are made especially in spring, when the aroma of fresh herbs makes any preparation more inviting.

In the north of the country  people are welcoming, the houses are beautiful and there is plenty of delicious food.

Maramures has gone to fame all over the world thanks to special dishes, so if you visit this area prepare to enjoy some of the best Romanian dishes.
